HOTEL PALAZZO MURAT

Once home to the first King of Naples, Palazzo Murat is perfectly located in the cobbled centre of Positano, an ideal launchpad for exploring the town. The sun drenched private courtyard of this 18th century baroque gem is a welcome sight after tackling your way through the narrow, bustling streets. The beautiful botanical gardens surrounding the palazzo are filled with banana trees, succulents and emerald palms that drape a veil of shadow over the jasmine and lemon tree canopies — a peaceful oasis for a moment of calm.

The rooms feature beamed ceilings, four poster beds, sumptuous antiques and original 18th century oil paintings; the opulent shutters opening out onto bougainvillaea draped balconies. Book into a Special Superior room on the top level of the villa for warm evening sunshine on the balcony and morning views of the ocean, the iconic Santa Maria church dome and rows of pastel buildings on the Positano cliffside that will take your breath away.

Set within the garden's courtyard, dine alfresco under the stars at the Al Palazzo restaurant. The Chef Sabatino Amendola serves up delicious, imaginative Italian dishes using home grown produce from the lush gardens — fresh vegetables, tomatoes, salads and Mediterranean herbs. Perfect for sundowners or a nightcap, we ended most evenings with whisky and cocktails at the old courtyard bar, surrounded by the hum of old Italian jazz and the warm glimmer of candlelight.
