Just a short ride from Providenciales airport, we’re greeted with a refreshing local beer and glass of champagne on arrival at COMO Parrot Cay’s marina. Sun beaming through tropical rain clouds, the serene boat ride to this island paradise sets the mood for the magic that awaits us.

Parrot Cay has a wonderful sense of calm, a feeling of total isolation and tranquillity — a world away from reality. Tucked away on a private island, it has become an oasis for jet-setters, chill-seekers and a part-time residence for the likes of Keith Richards.

Surrounded by sweeping sands and peaceful seas, the hotel grounds are lush, green and immaculately maintained. We jump on a golf cart and make our way down the dusty palm lined pathways to our suite. The airy rooms feature sumptuous four-poster beds, teak details, white cotton fabrics and contemporary furnishings; the whitewashed main building is simple with British colonial touches and 180-degree views of the ocean.

Now lets talk about the beach… the three miles of unspoilt, isolated and unforgettable beach. Still deep blue ocean breaks into sudden shallow and almost luminous waters, gentle turquoise waves drifting in and out, dancing across the utopian white powder soft sand. We had escaped to an uninhabited paradise and one of the best beaches we have ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

The dining experiences at COMO Parrot Cay are exceptional, poolside restaurant Lotus is effortlessly romantic and serves contemporary Asian dishes beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The traditional flavours and fresh, local ingredients are expertly crafted into show stopping dishes — we ordered the crispy tuna jalapeño sushi, the pork belly bao and the wok beef, all were absolutely delicious. On our last evening, the team hosted a Mediterranean barbecue at The Terrace restaurant. The ambience was exquisite, from the intoxicating aroma of outdoor ovens to the soft glimmer of candlelight and gentle hum of music and laughter. The COMO chefs served a mouth-watering selection of salads, lobster, cheese and cold cuts, fresh pastas and a selection of meat and seafood grilled and cut before your eyes.

Everything radiates tranquil serenity at COMO Parrot Cay. Set on 1000-acres, the private villas ensure it never feels crowded, there are always free sun beds and you can walk for miles along the beach and feel as if its only yourself and the sound of the ocean. Restless palms, lush vegetation and white-cushioned sun loungers line the breath-taking infinity pool which looks out across the glowing ocean and beyond. A decked walkway leads you to the pool bar, the perfect spot for ice-cold rum cocktails and blackened fish tacos in the afternoon sun.

If Parrot Cay isn’t paradise, it’s pretty darn close.
